Exxaro donated a 1.3-million-rand water tanker truck to emakhazeni local municipality

Exxaro’s digital and connected Belfast mine recently handed over a R1.3 million water tanker truck to Emakhazeni Local Municipality.

Belfast Coal, Business Unit Manager, Londolani Rampfumedzi expressed how, “the water truck will provide the local community access to potable water, which is a basic need and human right for all. It is through such initiatives that the communities’ livelihoods are restored and sustained”.

This donation is one of the many ways that Exxaro contributes to its host communities, and how it believes that businesses need to work with the local municipalities to improve the lives of South Africans.

This was supported by the Executive Mayor of Emakhazeni Municipality, Councilor T D Ngwenya, “Exxaro continues to uplift and address the needs of the surrounding communities and we are grateful for the positive contribution towards the growth and development of our local communities.”

The water tanker truck was received by the Executive Mayor on behalf of the community. “This came at the right time as the municipality is installing 20 000 litres water tanks in the surrounding farms to provide water to every household. Emakhazeni Local Municipality struggles with the provision of water in farming communities and this water tanker is exactly what the municipality needed to respond to the impact of Covid-19”.

To date, the mine has provided over R500 000, in partnership with main Business Partners, in support of the community challenges, which included initiatives that provided Covid 19 relief in the local municipality.
