3 March 2022, Exxaro Resources Limited (Exxaro), the black empowered diversified resources group, reported a 46% increase in core EBITDA to R10 671 million (FY20: R7 291 million), and a 58% increase in core HEPS at R46.83 (FY20: R29.73) for the financial year ended 31 December 2021, a resilient performance despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and a distressed local economy. In addition, extensive logistical challenges substantially impacted export volumes, but, performance was sustained through significant increases in realised coal prices across all markets. Exxaro is continuing in its efforts to socio-economic impact of Covid-19, through a partnership with international charity organisation World Vision South Africa, to bring healthy food and hygiene packs to vulnerable children and their families. Exxaro is supporting a cause that encourages a positive future for vulnerable children, and through this partnership, it is giving them access to a basic human need – hygiene and food. Exxaro’s Grootegeluk mine donated a 10000-litre water truck to the Lephalale local municipality to alleviate water supply challenges to the area, demonstrating the company’s strong commitment to its host communities. According to statistics from the Lephalale Integrated Development Plan 2020/21, in Lephalale, one-third of households do not have access to water in the dwelling or yard but have to make use of community standpipes. Black empowered and diversified resources company Exxaro is excited to announce the graduation of more than 100 youth from its Matla community as part of Portable Skills Training programme which was offered at its Matla Coal mine in Mpumalanga. A total of 108 local youth recently graduated from the programme in which they had the option to be trained in basic electricity; plumbing and brick laying; motor mechanics; welding and boiler making and property maintenance. The three-week course offered by Ekurhuleni Artisan and Skills Training Centre in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, provided learners with a solid platform to access job opportunities or even start their own small businesses. Exxaro today announced that it is sending several of its Executives and Sustainability Experts to form part of the South African delegation to participate at the 2021 COP26 Climate Change Summit which takes place from 31 October to 12 November in Glasgow, Scotland. The 26th United Nations’ (UNs) Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) will bring together global leaders to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC). The conference convenes global leaders to galvanise efforts to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 and for global emissions to be halved by 2030. Companies like Exxaro – which embrace this opportunity
