Exxaro’s Grootegeluk mine donated a 10000-litre water truck to the Lephalale local municipality to alleviate water supply challenges to the area, demonstrating the company’s strong commitment to its host communities. According to statistics from the Lephalale Integrated Development Plan 2020/21, in Lephalale, one-third of households do not have access to water in the dwelling or yard but have to make use of community standpipes. Black empowered and diversified resources company Exxaro is excited to announce the graduation of more than 100 youth from its Matla community as part of Portable Skills Training programme which was offered at its Matla Coal mine in Mpumalanga. A total of 108 local youth recently graduated from the programme in which they had the option to be trained in basic electricity; plumbing and brick laying; motor mechanics; welding and boiler making and property maintenance. Black empowered mining company, Exxaro Resources, recently partnered with Dis-Chem to vaccinate its employees, contractors, and their next of kin at the Exxaro head office, the conneXXion. As at 15 October - the partnership began in August 2021 and has seen over 570 people receive the vaccination through the partnership thus far. General Manager - Safety and Health at Exxaro, Dr Joseph Matjila expressed his excitement to this partnership by saying that “to reach herd immunity has to do with partnerships, not just between business and government but between business and business. The health of our people and citizens, is a responsibility that sits on us all and not just our government health department.” According to the Minerals Council South Africa (MCSA), 41% of mining employees are partially/fully vaccinated.
